Citizen Science: Invasive Weed Mapping

Citizen Science: Invasive Weed Mapping

Invasive weeds have and continue to spread widely across the globe.

These non-native plants have the potential to negatively impact the plant community.

In addition to the more than 1,300 native plant species that thrive in Yellowstone, more than 200 nonnative species have been documented in the park.

Through this Citizen Science program Yellowstone Forever helps survey and remove invasive weeds.

How to Get Involved

Collect data while participating in an Institute program

While on a Yellowstone Forever program, ask your instructor to survey for the focal weed species by documenting weeds with geotagged photos.

Participate during a service learning project

During service learning projects, participants would work to manually remove weeds from an area and collect native seeds.
