This summer the Yellowstone Forever Institute is offering three fly-fishing programs with expert educator Shalon Hastings.
Shalon’s fly-fishing instruction experience runs deep. She is a fly-fishing guide and the owner of Fly FisHer Adventures, a fly-fishing instruction business in Montana. Her main fishing grounds are around Helena, Montana where you can find her fishing, guiding, and instructing on the Missouri, Little Blackfoot, and Blackfoot rivers as well as the many smaller streams and lakes in the area.
Shalon also volunteers her time to serve on the Mending Waters Montana board that serves U.S. Veterans and the Pat Barnes Missouri River Trout Unlimited board. She’s also is the founder of Last Chance Fly Gals, a Helena-area fly-fishing networking group for women primarily—but that anyone be a part of!
It doesn’t matter if you are a new fly-fisher or a longtime enthusiast, the ability to expand your knowledge on the incredible water of Yellowstone are unparalleled.
We are offering two Fly-Fishing Yellowstone programs, one will run from June 23-27 and a second will run from July 21-25. These programs will cover it all, from the basics to more advanced techniques both in the classroom and out in the field. Most of your instruction will be streamside and in the stream, maximizing your time in Yellowstone! You’ll learn about the basics such as equipment selection and use, fishing knots, and casting, in addition to more advanced topics such as entomology, “reading the water”, and advanced fishing techniques. Both of our Fly-Fishing Yellowstone programs will be based out of Gardiner, Montana.
We are also offering our popular Women’s Fly Fishing Retreat from July 3-8. For many women, the thought of fly-fishing can be overwhelming and intimidating. The sport has been male-dominated for a long time but the demographic is starting to change! This program is designed to make women feel more comfortable pursuing fly fishing on their own with confidence.

The majority of your time will be spent streamside learning everything from how to pick our equipment to advanced fishing techniques.
Our fly-fishing programs sell out quickly every summer, so register ASAP to claim your spot. This summer we are also limiting our capacity in each program to maintain COVID-19 precautions, so there are even fewer spots available!
As Montana author Normal Maclean once wrote, “One great thing about fly fishing is that after a while nothing exists of the world but thoughts about fly fishing.”
