2019 Yellowstone Plein Air Invitational
The second annual Yellowstone Plein Air Invitational will be held September 24-29, 2019.
The 5-day invitational celebrates the current and historical presence of art in Yellowstone.
Sixteen of the nation’s best artists will paint “en plein air” (outside on-site) for five days in various locations throughout Yellowstone National Park.
Park visitors have the opportunity to attend daily painting demonstrations and a paint-out that gathers all artists to paint in one location on Saturday, September 28.
Artists paint throughout Yellowstone. Painting demonstrations will take place at the following times and locations:
Sept. 24 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Specimen Ridge Trailhead
Sept. 25 | 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Yellowstone Lake Hotel
Sept. 26 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Artist Point
Sept. 27 | 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. at Castle Geyser
9 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Morning Paint-Out at Madison Junction. Artists will have two hours to complete a painting of Yellowstone.
11 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2 p.m.- 3 p.m.: Family-friendly plein air art activities at the Yellowstone Art & Photography Center at Old Faithful.
6 p.m.-9 p.m.: VIP banquet and art auction at Old Faithful Lodge Recreation Hall. Studio paintings from each artist will be exhibited alongside plein air work painted during the event. Purchase tickets here.
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Exhibition and sale open to the public at Old Faithful Lodge Recreation Hall.
Join us for a special weekend event, September 27-29, 2019, celebrating the current and historical importance of art in Yellowstone. Throughout the weekend, guests will interact with artists, listen to art-themed presentations, and choose from a variety of field excursions.
