The geology of Yellowstone includes both young and old volcanic features, billion-year-old metamorphic rocks, sediments from ancient seabeds, and a landscape scoured by recent glacial activities. You will be guided to look for fossils, examine rock compositions, correlate rock types with erosional features, identify ancient floodplains, examine geothermal features, and more. You will visit a variety of locations that illustrate the geologic history of Yellowstone and some of its unique geologic features, and be guided through the type observations to record in a field journal.
