Yellowstone Events

Not only are there endless things to see in Yellowstone, there are also fun events and activities for all ages and interests. If you’re headed our way this fall or winter, be on the lookout for these happenings throughout the park and vicinity!

May

May 23: Book Signing with Dave Peterson

10 a.m. – 3 p.m. | Old Faithful Visitor and Education Center

Near, Far and Wild: Yellowstone Park encompasses over two million acres in northwest Wyoming. It was the world’s first national park and to this day remains one of the largest. Seeing it all is an almost incomprehensible task- even for lifelong residents. One such park resident, David Peterson, has come as close as anyone, though, and presents many of his experiences in this book.

May 23: Norris Geyser Basin Store Open

Open: 5/16-10/10
Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The Norris store is located in the park at the Norris Geyser Basin. It is a single-story log structure designed by architect Herbert Maier in a style that has become known as National Park Service Rustic. The building was erected in 1930 as the Norris Comfort Station and later converted to a bookstore. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks as a contributing structure in relationship to the Norris Museum, which was also designed by Maier.

May 23: Fishing Bridge Store Open

Open: 5/23-10/10
Hours (5/23-9/30): 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Hours (10/1-10/10): 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The Fishing Bridge store is located in the park in the historic “Fishing Bridge Museum” visitor center. Designed by architect Herbert Maier and built in 1931, the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center is the largest of three “trailside museums” declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987 (Norris and Madison are the other two). The building features stuffed mounts of birds and animals found in Yellowstone.

May 23: West Thumb Store Open

Open: 5/16-10/10
Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Our West Thumb store is located in the park in the historic West Thumb Information Center cabin at the West Thumb thermal basin. West Thumb can be one of the busiest locations as the closest ranger-staffed visitor center is located two miles south at Grant Village. Park Store associates at this location not only have to be able to answer visitor questions about the park that would be fielded by park rangers on-site at other locations, they often have to provide customer service for up to three tour buses full of visitors at the same time!

May 23: Grant Village Store Open

Our store at Grant Village is located in the park inside the Grant Visitor Center. Grant is our fifth busiest location.

May 23: Quake Lake Store Open

Open: 5/23-9/15
Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Quake Lake is Yellowstone Forever’s newest store. Located 27 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, Montana on US Highway 287, the Quake Lake store is a partnership between the U.S. Forest Service, Yellowstone National Park, and Yellowstone Forever.

This guide contains information on over 50 thermal features located at West Thumb, maps, and a handy index for easy reference.

June 5: Tower Junction to Tower Fall Open

June 5: Madison Store Opens

Open: 6/7-10/3
Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

The Madison store is located in the park in the historic “Madison Museum” southeast of the Madison campground. Designed by architect Herbert Maier and built in 1929, the Madison Information Station is the smallest of three “trailside museums” declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987 (Norris and Fishing Bridge are the other two). The Information Station overlooks the beautiful Madison River Valley to the east and is the official Junior Ranger Station.
