Yellowstone Forever’s Overlook Field Campus

Overlook Field Campus

Perfect for families and small groups, the Yellowstone Overlook Field Campus features comfortable cabins on 80 acres, awe-inspiring views, and easy access to the northern section of the park. Take a look at the below images to get a better idea of what you can expect from these accommodations that you won’t find anywhere else in the area.

What to expect at the Overlook Field Campus

Overlook’s cabins have self-serve kitchens for preparing meals and open floor plans that are perfect for group dining and evening activities.

Guests at the Overlook Field Campus will need to bring their own food and toiletries. Groceries are available nearby in Gardiner. Linens and towels are provided, but we do not have a housekeeping staff at the Overlook.

Most of the beds at our facilities are bunk beds; please let us know if you require a bottom bunk. Each cabin has a TV/DVD player and an educational library with books and videos. Camping and pets (with the exception of service animals) are not permitted.

If you are visiting during the winter we recommend an all-wheel or 4-wheel-drive vehicle as roads can be snow-packed and icy.

Groups that need a formal classroom setting can make arrangements to use the classroom space at our headquarters, located just down the hill in Gardiner. Our small group packages include lodging during the program, or if you prefer to build your own program you are welcome to stay the nights before and after your tour(s).

Our volunteer caretakers live on-site and they will help orient you to the Overlook campus. An emergency phone is available all hours outside their cabin. Verizon is the only cell phone provider currently providing reliable coverage at the campus. Wireless Internet is available in the cabins and at several businesses in Gardiner.

The Overlook is designed to be a comfortable and peaceful base from which to explore and learn in America’s first national park. The campus has a picnic table and pond. A marked, 1-mile-long trail leads down to the Yellowstone River.

Wildlife is abundant—you may see bison, wolves, elk, and deer right from your cabin!
